Reflections in a kilt

Reflections in a kilt

About the blog

This weblog is mainly to describe slices-of-life in a kilt and with the objective, of course, that more men shall make the kilt a valuable addition to their wardrobe.

The more we are the easier it is.

How many are actually going commando under kilts?

Commando or not?

The never ending question, but in fact there is an indication in a YouGov research from 2016, according to which no less than 45 per cent of Scottish men voting for independence in the 2014 referendum stated that they ‘go commando’; whereas 32 per cent of those voting No will do.
Under the condition that the 45/55 result for independence also applies to men; it means that almost 38% of Scottish men should go commando under kilt – and nothing being said about frequency - at least sometimes.

Glad you had a nice trip to Europe, Wadhamite, with only few, but all of them positive, comments to your kilt and wearing of it.
I think, having a couple of times been in the US and pretty many times been together with Americans that a major difference between Americans and Europeans – at least those living on the continent – is that we Europeans are more reserved than are you Americans. That does in no way mean that we are unfriendly to foreigners or hostile; that is just the way most Europeans are.
92 miles of walking in just two weeks, visiting five cities and all the time in a kilt sounds great. My wife and I like walking too. I have similar positive experience from all countries where I have been wearing a kilt, whether tartan, solid coloured traditional or of the utility type, meaning Denmark, my own country, my neighbour countries, Sweden and Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Croatia, and UK. And outside Europe I have been kilted for weeks 24/7 in Japan (Tokyo) and in your country (New York City).
Wearing a kilt feels great, but to others it is a non-event.

My wife and I recently spent two weeks in western Europe (we are American) and I wore kilts there the entire time -- Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, and Berlin. Walked 92 miles in total. It was comfortable. I never saw another kilt on anyone! A few people made positive comments but most people didn't even seem to notice. I go commando. And my wife is not much for colors, so my kilts are solid black. Anybody else have similar experiences?
